Meet Your Team

Ken Duetsch II, CFA, CFP®

President

At an early age, I developed an interest in financial planning. In the early 1980s, my dad (my #1 personal hero) was (and still is!) a realtor. I would often sit with him at the kitchen table and work through debt-income ratios and mortgage payment calculations for prospective home buyers. (I may have been the only one in my school who had mastered a reverse notation financial calculator.)

Way back then, before having a real job or owning my own car, I realized most people could have benefited from financial planning.

My experience in the financial world is extensive. I’ve served as a Senior Portfolio Manager at Citizens Bank (now Huntington Bank), was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer, and was then promoted again to Executive Vice President and Director of Wealth Management.

Prior to working at Citizens, I was Vice President and Senior Fixed Income Portfolio Manager at the Northern Trust Company, with responsibility for managing and trading securities of more than $4.5 billion in assets. I also spent six years with the First National Bank of Chicago in trust and investments.

From 2003-2007, I was a faculty member of the American Banker’s Association National Trust School at Northwestern University in Chicago and Emory University in Atlanta where I taught classes on investment management.

I have a B.S. in finance from Central Michigan University and an M.B.A. with distinction from DePaul University. I hold the Chartered Financial Analyst® and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designations, and I have also earned the Certified Investment Management Analyst and Accredited Investment Fiduciary® designations.

I’m a member of the Financial Planning Association, CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Detroit.  I am also active in my community. I sit on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Flint and Mott Children’s Health Center. In addition, I have had past board/committee involvement with Faith Lutheran Church, the YMCA of Greater Flint, Priority Children, and The Community Foundation of Greater Flint.  I also taught Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University at my church for three years.

Ken and his family

When I am not working or reading, I value time with my wife and three kids. We have been blessed to have taken some incredible vacations and have traveled to six of the seven locations mentioned in the chorus of the song “Kokomo” by the Beach Boys. I also enjoy spending time at my “retreat” up north.

I am very proud to be part of Grand Capital Advisors and find every day to be a blessing.  I look forward to meeting all of the individuals, families, and organizations who will pass through our door (or Zoom call) in the future.
